Nevado del Ruiz is a 5320-m-high active stratovolcano located in the Central Cordillera of Colombia, as part of Parque Nacional Natural de los Nevados at 04° 53.72’ N and 75° 19.35’ W.
Nevado del Ruiz has an active crater named Cumanday and two dormant craters: Olleta and Pirana. In the active crater Cumanday there are nine fumaroles. Fourteen thermal springs are located in the edifice of nevado del Ruiz volcano with different types of waters: (1) acid sulfate waters; (2) neutral chloride waters; and (3) alcaline bicarbonate waters. |
